THE MANY HEALTH BENEFITS & USES FOR COCONUT OIL

Despite what we have been told, high quality saturated fats are good for us. They are a natural necessary food that is essential for proper immune function, for a  healthy circulatory system and are a must for proper brain development.

One of the healthy saturated fats is coconut oil. I began using this oil for cooking, as it is very stable in the presence of heat and can be stored for a year or two without having to worry about rancidity. After I began reading more about the antimicrobial benefits of extra virgin coconut oil I set out to discover all of the different ways I could use it. I started spreading it on my sprouted grain bread, melted it on my vegetables and mashed potatoes and sometimes took it by the tablespoon. However, I haven't been very regular with the latter. About a year ago I met a physician assistant who came from the Phillipines (where much of the coconut oil comes from). I asked him if he used coconut oil in his diet and he affirmed that he did. Then he shared an interesting fact which supported what I had been reading concerning the health benefits of coconut oil.  He told me that his grandparents and others of their generation would drink around a quarter of a cup of this oil a day...as a disease preventative.

Coconut oil is antibacterial, antiviral , antifungal and can discourage parasites. Bruce Fife, in his book The Coconut Oil Miracle (Previously published as The Healing Miracle of Coconut Oil)  tells us that " In his studies of African natives, Dr. Weston A. Price noted in his book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration, that those who consumed traditional local foods did not suffer from insect-borne diseases such as malaria. Tropical climates are breeding grounds for all types of disease-causing organisms, yet indigenous peoples have lived in these places generation after generation without problem. Only those people from other climates, who eat virtually no coconut or other native plants, have a difficult time. Herbalists have noted for years that in regions where certain diseases are common, medicinal plants grow that can cure these diseases."

I've had two experiences with the healing of warts through the application of extra virgin coconut oil. The first time I used the oil topically was on a plantar wart on the bottom of my foot. I applied the oil twice a day for about a month and a half. You could watch it gradually disappear...and it never came back. A friend had the same results with a plantar wart on her foot.  A year or so later I had a wart on my finger, used the oil...again for about a month and the growth disappeared.

The lauric acid and the caprylic acid in the coconut oil are some of the oil's components which kill bacteria and fungus. Just some of the offenders which are exterminated  by Lauric acid and are listed in  The Coconut Oil Miracle (Previously published as The Healing Miracle of Coconut Oil) are listeria, HIV, measles, Epstein Barr virus, Visna virus, leukemia, Staph, and Hepatitis B. Having just become a grandmother, I am especially interested in the fact that mother's milk is another source that is very high in lauric acid. If mothers are breastfeeding and lauric acid kills the Hepatitis B pathogen...then why are babies being given dangerous Hep B vaccines when they are only two hours old? It used to be that babies were not given any vaccines till they were at least 3 months old....because their immune systems were not well enough developed before that time to handle the foreign vaccine elements.

In the book Virgin Coconut Oil: How It Has Changed People's Lives, and How It Can Change Yours!  the authors talk about how coconut oil appears to boost thyroid gland function and also how it helps people to lose weight. These two books I've mentioned also inform the reader about the politics of the oil industry and why we have been given false nutritional advice when it comes to what types of fats we should be using. It is now coming to light that it is the polyunsaturated fats which appear to be one of the causes of cancer and heart disease. We are told not to eat foods that contain saturated fats, which supposedly raise cholesterol ...but did you know that one of the important functions of cholesterol is to work in conjunction with the sun to create vitamin D on the skin? Is the harmful advice to consume polyunsaturated fats instead of saturated fats, one of the reasons everyone has such low vitamin D levels , osteoporosis, heart disease, skin cancer and other types of cancers?

Coconut oil is also used extensively in cosmetics. Remember not to put anything on your skin that you would not put in your mouth. Whatever we put on our skin is absorbed into our bodies.

Other high quality healthy fats I would recommend are fats from grassfed animals, which includes meat fat and butterfat from raw milk that comes from the grassfed animals.

I have found a good place to buy high quality virgin coconut oil at an affordable price. This is one of the reasons I became an affiliate with Mountain Rose Herbs. I have been buying the oil by the gallon and between using it for "oil pulling"  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_pulling  , cooking, supplement use, and skin application, I have no problem using it up in an appropiate length of time. Coconut oil is solid below 76 degrees F but melts on skin contact

Here is the link to my coconut oil source. The quality is pure and Mountain Rose Herbs has the best  price that I could find . Scroll down to the unrefined VIRGIN coconut oil and read how it's made. http://edge.affiliateshop.com/public/AIDLink?AID=111632&Redirect=/bulkoil/a-c.html

Some people love the taste of coconut oil and others do not. Often those who do not like the taste of coconut will buy the refined coconut oil. However, some researchers and consumers feel that refining the oil takes away some of it's beneficial properties.

  1. Try some raw coconut butter. It is much tastier than coconut oil and has all of the same properties.

I still think Monolaurin needs to be supplemented even when eating coconut oil.

  2. Hi....I wasn't sure what coconut butter was so I looked it up and found this definition

Definition: Coconut Butter is another name for Coconut Oil. The reason why it is called Coconut Butter in cold countries is that since coconut oil solidifies below 25oC, it is mostly sold as cubes or chunks, like those of butter, in these countries and hence called Coconut Butter, unlike tropical countries where coconut oil is sold as liquid in bottles or cans (thanks to the heat there) and hence the term “Coconut Butter” is not so popular in those places.
